Railways play an important part of our business, but did you know that some people spend their time restoring, fixing and running old vintage steam and diesel locomotives?
Oxted DEMU 1305
Travel is about relaxing, discovering new places and learning about where you are. Back in the 1960’s our railways went through a major transformation from steam to diesel and electric. This progress bought faster more comfortable travel options. As time has progressed these diesel and electric locomotives and trains have been replaced by more modern examples leaving many of the older ones to be scrapped.
Avocet Travel Management are pleased to announce that we are helping the heritage railway sector by purchasing the nameplates “Brighton Royal Pavilion” to be adorned on the side of diesel multiple unit 1305.
Why help 1305? This unit was based in the southeast of England and was used on non-electrified lines. It could frequently be seen taking commuters from East Grinstead and Uckfield to London and in later years it used to ply its trade on Marshlink services operating between Brighton, Hastings and Ashford. It was in these years that the railways named the unit “Brighton Royal Pavilion”.
Whilst this train may not be one of the “glamourous” locomotives it provided a vital link for rural communities and once restored will be a great asset for the Bluebell Railway.
